springtime at the big sur house

April 27, 2019

After a very wet winter (over 50″ of rainfall) it has been a beautiful spring at The Big Sur House. The poppies and wildflowers are blooming and there is a veritable small green field in front of our deck! Next spring I’m going to toss a bunch of wildflower seed and hope for even more flowers. Of course, lest you think it is perfect, poison oak and ticks are in great abundance and seem to have an affinity for me.

March and April have brought a new deck, a lovely olive tree, and some magical skies. My parents came to visit and helped out around the homestead building shelves and collaborated on designing a garden shed. It has been a busy time with many projects in the works!

Here is a pictorial of our spring so far….

In March I was greeted by cheerful daffodils.

The new deck took quite some time due to the inclement weather, but it was worth waiting for. (And yes, there will be a railing!)
Wildflowers and weeds blooming on the hillside.
We were blessed with many glorious sunrises and sunsets.
Crisp blue skies and the smell of citrus blossoms and lavender scenting the air.

We added a swing/hammock to the balcony…a perfect perch!
This is our favorite spot for watching the whales migrate in the spring.
Our new ollie tree! Never mind the mess that is our front yard…all in good time.
Spring scenes like this are worth rising early to see!

With many ongoing projects happening, I look forward to sharing our progress here on my blog. Thanks for following along!

Elizabeth, what an amazing view you have there! You probably sit outside all the time? Love to see how it all evolves.

Thank you, Petra. And yes, weather permitting, we sit out there all the time. We had wonderful weather while my sister followed by my parents visited and we practically lived on the deck! 🙂
