Egg nog French toast has been a Christmas morning tradition in our home since 1996. It is easy and delicious. The aroma when it is baking will make your mouth water! You may even want to make it a holiday tradition in your home…

I use store bought egg nog (usually Trader Joe’s) but I have included the recipe to make your own egg nog if you are so inclined. 🙂

Egg Nog French Toast

Egg Nog:

6 fresh eggs

½ cup sugar

1 pint cream

1 pint milk

1 pint whiskey

Egg mixture:

2 cups egg nog

¼ cup sugar

¼ tsp cinnamon

¼ tsp freshly grated nutmeg

3 beaten eggs

¼ cup Southern Comfort Whiskey (or whiskey of your choice)

Use store bought egg nog, or make your own.

To make egg nog:

Combine all ingredients.

To make egg mixture:

Combine egg nog, sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Add beaten eggs and whiskey. Slice 2″ thick slices of French bread (long slender loaf). Pour a small amount of egg nog mixture into a rectangular baking dish. Fill the dish (in one layer) with slices of bread. Pour remaining egg nog mixture over bread. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight.

In the morning, brown the French bread slices in saute pan (with butter) on top of the stove, about 2 minutes each side. Put browned pieces in a baking dish and bake at 350° for 15 minutes. Serve with butter and Vermont maple syrup. Enjoy!

Looks delicious! I also prepared an overnight french toast, which was very good but next time I’ll add a couple of coffee liqueurs or as your recipe indicates. Might become another new/old holiday tradition. The first new/old tradition is your wonderful wassail recipe . Happy New Year !
