big sur winter (part 1)

January 6, 2019
Big Sur Sunset

Winter is my favorite season in California. That may sound strange as it is also our rainy season, however, most Californians love the rain as it is such a rare occurrence the rest of the year. After one or two storms, everything begins to turn green again. The air is crisp and clear without the marine layer/fog that persists in the summer. The surf can get huge and is quite a sight to behold. What I love most are the magical winter sunrises and sunsets.

In Big Sur, all of these qualities seem magnified. I am in awe of the beauty here all year round, but winter is the time Mother Nature puts on her biggest show. I’m never without my camera or IPhone when I’m here. And while pictures don’t come close to depicting the true grandeur of Big Sur, they are the next best thing to being there.

Seeing green after the long months of “golden” hills is a welcome sight.

I live with my family in Seattle and we are planning a road trip down to San Diego in April. I always see your beautiful instagram posts of Big Sur and I told my husband “We need to drive through this place, it’s incredible!” So, thanks for the inspiration πŸ™‚

What a wonderful trip that will be! Many years ago, when we were living in CT, we did a road trip from San Francisco to San Diego and have so many beautiful memories! That’s when I first fell in love with Big Sur. πŸ™‚
